Swiss and guns

A recent letter-writer claims that Switzerland has high gun ownership and a low crime rate. This is true. However, Switzerland has mandatory conscription into the militia of all men between 20 and 30. The conscripts are issued guns by the government to be kept at home. At the end of their service, they are allowed to keep the weapons, after modification to remove the automatic capability. Switzerland also has very strict gun control laws that the NRA would never accept.
