‘Equipment’ failure

I thank Heather Benson for bringing attention to the fate of military dogs upon retirement (Point of View article, Dec. 8). I was shocked and appalled to learn that these dogs – who risk their lives for our soldiers – are classified as equipment and usually euthanized, rarely allowed to be adopted.

I have contacted our senators with a request that they support S. 2134, the Canine Members of the Armed Forces.

I also appreciate that you printed this article. It is for reasons such as these that I maintain my subscription.
