WAYNESVILLE — Holiday travelers headed from the Triangle west will run into traffic delays Saturday because of a rock slide in Haywood County.
On Friday night, about three dump-truck loads worth of rocks fell from a slope onto the shoulder of Interstate 40 near mile marker 7 in Waynesville.
As of Saturday afternoon, traffic was restricted to one westbound lane so that transportation workers could safely remove the rocks. Transportation officials said they expected the rocks to be cleared by Saturday night.
The state Highway Patrol advised the road might not be cleared until early Sunday.
