Pearl Elizabeth Linthicum Mendenhall was born on November 5, 1922 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. At age five she was adopted by her father’s sister Elizabeth Gault Linthicum, and moved to Baltimore, MD where she lived until her marriage to Robert Reid Mendenhall, Jr. and moved to High Point, NC. Her education in Maryland included Forest Park High School, Maryland Institute of Art, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Elecution and dancing school, Modeling, and she was a fashion model and secretary before her marriage. She was a devoted mother to her beloved children and was a secretary for her husband when they started their business in 1953. She was a secretary at High Point Regional Hospital for sixteen years. She was a member of Eutaw Place Baptist Church, Springfield Friends Meeting, and for the last twenty-two years attended Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Reid Mendenhall, III.
Survivors include her beloved daughter, Bonny Lynne Mendenhall Calloway; her beloved granddaughters, Miles Christina Calloway, Lauren Trapp, Michelle Reid; her beloved brother, Alva Patterson Linthicum, Jr. and wife Joyce Daugherty; nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, January 14, 2013 in the chapel of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC.
