Saltwater

Buxton/Hatteras

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

The trout bite in the area remains strong, with anglers finding them on the beaches and off the piers. R ed drum and spots also are being found in the surf and through pier fishing. Topsail Island

Large sea mullet have been the consistent bite this week for anglers willing to fight the wind in the surf and on the piers. Red drum, flounder, black drum and trout also have been reported in the surf with the current dying down. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Inshore boats reported good catches of flounder and red drum. Surf anglers are catching drum, sea mullet and flounder along with scattered spots. Offshore boats remained docked because of the weather. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Trout are biting near the creeks and on the piers. In the surf, trout, whiting and a few scattered red drum are biting. Offshore boats caught k ing mackerel and scattered wahoo . Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; www.yeahrightcharters.com; or www.oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

L argemouth bass are biting around the main and secondary points at medium depths on jigs, crank baits and blade baits. Catfish have been caught on night crawlers and livers around the river and creek channels. Crappie still are biting minnows up the lake at about 5- to 10-foot depths and down the lake between 15- to 20-foot depths. White bass are biting at medium depths on rooster tails and blade baits. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 250.9, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-217-0085; www.wmi.org.

Kerr Lake

Largemouth bass have been caught on spinner baits and crank baits at varying depths throughout the week. C rappie still are biting jigs at medium depths near structures and brushpiles. Shearon Harris Lake

Largemouth bass are biting at varying depths with most anglers starting shallow and easing their way into secondary points on crank baits and jigs. Crappie are biting between 14 to 16 feet on soft plastics, grubs with a jig head and minnows. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
