Cut the fat
Here’s a New Year’s resolution that would save Congress from its fiscal cliff. Put the Pentagon on a diet.
The core defense budget has gone up for an unprecedented 13 straight years, yet we’ve been told the sequestration process would cut too deeply into “security” spending. In reality, the $50 billion reduction in defense spending required by the Budget Control Act for 2013 would still leave it funded at FY2007 levels, a year when we were fighting two wars.
This level of cuts would not threaten our security, but it would help control the Pentagon’s “waste line.”
