DURHAM — TopDrawerSoccer.com released its final freshman top 100 rankings on Friday and Duke rookie Cassie Pecht listed No. 3 overall, after TopDrawerSoccer.com named her National Freshman of the Year for 2012.
Duke’s first National Freshman of the Year in school history, Pecht started all 23 matches during the season at both the midfield and forward positions.
A native of Mechanicsville, Pa., Pecht registered six goals, 15 assists and a total of 27 points in her freshman campaign. In the Duke single-season freshman charts, Pecht’s 15 assists was a new record, while her 27 points tied for second. Her 15 assists led the NCAA in 2012 and she tied for ninth in the ACC with 27 points.
Pecht’s 15 assists was also the second-most in Duke soccer history. Pecht scored or assisted in 15 of the Blue Devils’ 23 matches this season. She was an All-ACC Freshman selection and Second Team All-Southeast Region honoree in 2012.
As a team, Duke advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth time in the past six years before falling, 1-0, at top-seeded Penn State. The Blue Devils posted a 15-6-2 overall record on the year.
