Myths, merriment
I think that Michael G. Bazemore Jr. is being a bit too harsh toward his fellow atheists. In his Point of View piece Dec. 25, he chides his God-less cadre for their insensitive hubris for displaying a Times Square billboard showing Santa Claus and a crucified Jesus and encouraging folks to “Keep the Merry” and “Dump the Myth.”
Although it may not appear to be merriment on the surface, the crucifixion of Christ becomes total joy for all those who appropriate the shed blood of the savior and his rising from the grave to defeat death for all mankind. Any Christian worth his salt would gladly dump the myth of Santa Claus in favor of this ultimate sacrifice who came to be God with us and offer us eternal life with him.
Isn’t it funny how atheists can sometimes unintentionally do good!
