Three men were shot early Tuesday at a New Year’s Eve party in Clayton, resulting in one death, authorities said.

Shortly after 2 a.m., violence erupted at a party at the American Legion building on U.S. 70 in Clayton, Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said in a news release.

Daniel Anthony Laboy Jr., 19, of Clayton, was taken by friends to Johnston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

When deputies arrived at the American Legion hall, they discovered that three men had been wounded by gunfire in the parking lot.

The identities of the two injured men were not disclosed as the investigation continues. One was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh and another was taken to Johnston Medical Center. Both are hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, Bizzell said.
