Mary Ann Olsen: Calling on Perdue

Calling on Perdue

I voted for Gov. Bev Perdue’s opponent in 2008, but had she run again, I would have worked to re-elect her this year. In the last four years she faced more double binds, Hobson’s choices and Catch-22s than any North Carolina governor in recent memory.

With each decision, I saw her come down on the side of the people of our state and often take a political hit.

While I regret that Perdue chose to exit elective politics, I predict that under the direction of that same opponent I once voted for we will now see a tidal wave of Republican excess. I hope Perdue finds a way to remain active in the political arena; many, particularly our youngest citizens – our schoolchildren – need her voice.
