MORRISVILLE — An Amtrak passenger train hit a car that was caught on the tracks at McCrimmon and Chapel Hill roads, but no injuries are reported.
The driver of the car was able to exit before impact, but a cable was torn on the crossing bars. Until the crossing bars are repaired, the intersection will remain closed, according to Morrisville spokeswoman Stephanie Smith.
In a news release issued around 6:30 p.m., Smith said the repairs were expected to take about an hour.
The Amtrak Carolinian was on a southbound journey; its final destination was Charlotte. The train suffered minor damage, an Amtrak spokesman said, but the train was delayed about 90 minutes because the engineer exercised his option to request a replacement for the remainder of the trip.
