Nancy Grandjean

January 9, 2013

Nancy Grandjean of Durham died on December 30, 2012, after a brief illness. Nancy was born on August 20, 1949, to the late James and Loretta Grandjean of Parlin, NJ. She studied philosophy at Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) and in the continuing education program at Princeton University before making her way into scholarly and trade publishing, first at Princeton and later at the University of Washington, the American Institute of CPAs, and Duke University Press. Nancy was a highly skilled editor and a wonderful colleague, admired for her professionalism and keen intelligence and loved for her kindness, candor, zest, and wit. She adored and delighted in her nephews Ian and Dane, was an affectionate daughter and sister, and brought her friends joy. She lived in a blaze of color, and she was fun.

Nancy is predeceased by her sister, Lorri Everitt. She is survived by her brother Jim Grandjean and his wife, Judie, of Jackson, NJ; her brother Jerry Grandjean and his wife, Jess, and son, Simon, of Somerset, NJ; her brother-in-law, Jeffrey Everitt, and his sons, Ian and Dane, of Durham, NC; and her dear companion, Rosie the greyhound.

There will be no public service. Those who wish to honor Nancy may make donations in her name to Greyhound Friends of North Carolina (greyhoundfriends.com).
