Death-by-vehicle charge filed against driver in Fuquay-Varina crash

Published: January 10, 2013

— A Fuquay-Varina man whose car struck another on Jan. 3, killing the other driver, has been charged with felony death by vehicle.

State troopers already had charged Ross Franklin Mayfield with driving while impaired. Mayfield, 22, of 1914 Sterling Hill Drive is being held on $10,000 bail.

Trooper Phillip Cape said in an arrest warrant that impairment contributed to the charge that Mayfield “unintentionally caused the death” of Aaron Craig Allgood, who lived less than a mile from the site of the crash.

According to an accident report, Mayfield was driving a 2001 Saturn southbound on Lake Wheeler Road shortly after midnight when he ran a red light at Hilltop Needmore Road and hit the driver’s side of Allgood’s 2001 Mazda in the intersection.
