William Quaintance: Voter ID, really?

Voter ID, really?

I was disappointed reading the Jan. 10 story about our new governor, Pat McCrory, meeting with our new legislature (“Republicans take the reins”).

The governor said this is going to have to be a team effort to fix some of the problems in the state. And yet his first priority is a voter ID law?

No studies or data show this being a problem at all. It’s only an imaginary problem in the heads of some ideologues. A recent report shows that 600,000 N.C. voters have no state-issued picture ID. This is real data.

I think it’s clear to all North Carolinians that the top problems in this state are jobs, the economy and the budget. The priorities of our newest politicians show that they have no answers for our real problems and plan to focus on imagined problems and ideology. Looks like the lack of any useful work from N.C. politicians will continue for at least another two years.
