Readers’ Favorite Places

Tell us your favorite N.C. places

Published: January 11, 2013

Even if we have adopted North Carolina after living somewhere else, we Tar Heels are proud of our state and love to show it off.

We coax visitors up the 248 stairs at the historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to the breathtaking vista that awaits at the top. We wobble by their side across the Mile High swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain, squeal and splash on the rapids of the Nantahala.

We share legal moonshine, pig pickin’s and world-class dining; jug bands and symphony; Broadway plays and outdoor drama; golf the year round; and at this time of year, some of the best college hoops in America. Not to brag, but we Tar Heels might reasonably claim we have it all.

So how do you choose where to go and what to do when visitors come to town? What are the places and activities that you consider “must-see” and “must-do” to take advantage of North Carolina’s splendor and diversity? We want to share your favorites with our readers.

Please go to http://nando.com/ncplaces and tell us about the three places or activities that you consider “must-see” or “must-do.” Tell us about the well known and the little known. If you took a photo you’d like to share, post it, too. Tell us who you are and how to reach you if we need more information. (We won’t publish your phone number.) The deadline is Feb. 15.

We’ll take it from there, offering your guide to the best of North Carolina in time for the start of summer travel season, on Memorial Day 2013.
