Report: Upton declines trade from Arizona to Seattle

Published: January 11, 2013

Justin Upton is still a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks after reportedly declining a trade to the Seattle Mariners.

According to the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks and Mariners had agreed to terms of a deal, but Upton invoked his limited no-trade clause. The paper said Upton has a no-trade list of four teams as part of the six-year, $51.25 million contract he signed prior to the 2010 season.

Upton has spent his entire six-year career in Arizona and in 2012 batted .280 with 17 homers and 67 runs batted in. He had career bests of 31 homers and 88 RBI in 2011, winning a Silver Slugger Award in the process.

The two-time All-Star is a career .278 hitter with 108 homers and 363 runs batted in.
