Haskell remains top Monmouth feature

Published: January 11, 2013

The 46th running of the Haskell Invitational headlines Monmouth Park's 2013 racing season and is one of 19 stakes on the schedule. The $1 million Haskell will be conducted on Sunday, July 28.

The Haskell, run over a distance of 1 1/8-miles, was won last year by Belmont Stakes runner-up Paynter, giving Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert his third straight win in the race and sixth overall.

Kentucky Derby and Preakness champion Big Brown captured the Haskell in 2008 while the following year 3-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra posted a victory on her way to being named 2009 Horse of the Year.

Opening day for Monmouth's 2013 racing season is set for Saturday, May 11.
