The car struck a mailbox, several trees, flipped over several times and struck an unoccupied house.

The car and house caught fire. Sanford resident Katherine May Powers, 35, Christopher Gray Baker, 33, of Broadway, and Rebecca Lynn Powell, 38, of Chapin, S.C. also died. The Highway Patrol could not say how any of the occupants were related.
