The Coast Guard and other agencies are searching the waters of Croatan Sound on Sunday afternoon for a man reported missing after an airplane crashed. A woman was rescued from the water.
The plane went down after take-off from the Dare County Regional Airport about 1 p.m. County dispatchers contacted the Coast Guard to help find the twin-engine plane.
The Coast Guard launched crews aboard a 25-foot rescue boat from the Oregon Inlet station, and dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Elizabeth City.
The rescued woman, described as a passenger in the plane, was taken by local emergency medical services to a hospital.
