N.C. State forward Richard Howell was named the ACC Player of the Week on Monday.
He helped the Wolfpack improve to 3-0 in ACC basketball for the first time since the 1988-89 season with two home wins as the Wolfpack handed top-ranked Duke its first loss of the season 84-76 Saturday. The Wolfpack also defeated Georgia Tech 83-70 Wednesday.
For the week, Howell averaged 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Saint Augustine’s: Freshman guard Regime McCombs was named CIAA women’s basketball rookie of the week.
McCombs averaged 19 points and two steals to help the Falcons go 2-0 last week. She scored a career-high 24 points in a 67-53 victory against Lincoln (Pa.) on Saturday.
Shaw: Senior forward Taylor Dalrymple was named CIAA Newcomer of Week.
Dalrymple led a balanced squad to three victories, averaging 16.7 points and eight rebounds. Against Virginia Union, she had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
N.C. Central: Stanton Kidd was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his performance in two victories.
Kidd averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks as the Eagles went 2-0 with wins against Virginia University of Lynchburg and conference foe Florida A&M.
Baseball
Elon: Coach Mike Kennedy announced the addition of middle infielder/right-handed pitcher Matt Harris of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to his signing class for the 2013-14 school year.
Harris has been a starter at The Benjamin School since his freshman year. In 2012, he hit .432 and went 4-1 with a 2.10 ERA on the mound on his way to team MVP honors.

Sports Clubs: The Raleigh Sports Club will meet Wednesday at Highland United Methodist Church from noon to 1 p.m.
N.C. State Chancellor Randy Woodson will be the guest speaker. Katlyn West, Middle Creek Golf, will be recognized as the student athlete of the week.
