Quid pro no
The decision of N.C. Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives to vote unanimously against relief for states affected by Hurricane Sandy is truly deplorable. The federal government has frequently come to the aid of North Carolina residents after such storms destroyed private property and people’s livelihoods.
More than $800 million in federal outlays were given to North Carolina following Hurricane Fran in 1997. Similar funds were given to the state following Hurricane Irene in 2011.
This vote was blatant partisanship with no logical foundation. If the congressmen and women from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut fail to come to our aid the next time we are ravaged by a storm of this magnitude, I would not blame them one bit.
