Postgame: thoughts from Duke's 73-57 win over Georgia Tech

Published: January 18, 2013

— Mason Plumlee was asked about the good looks he had at the basket in the first half of Duke's win over Georgia Tech, and he interrupted the question.

"They were great looks," he said. "Man, I might never get those looks again. I've got to to finish."

Plumlee went 2-for-12 in the first half for six total points. In the second half, though, he found his touch—"You've got to shoot through it," he said—and finished 7-for-20 for 16 points. The 20 attempts were a career high, topping the 16 he had against Marquette as a sophomore.

The most memorable of those attempts was undoubtedly his third of the second half, in which involved making a nifty move around Marcus Georges-Hunt en route to a two-handed slam. Georgia Tech called a 30 second timeout, and head coach Mike Krzyzewski ran onto the court and jumped into Plumlee's arms. Krzyewski hung around the big guy's shoulders.

"That got me going there, for sure" Plumlee said. It's pretty cool when you have a coach that will do that for you, especially at 65."

It was the stuff of legend, as the current Blue Devils had only seen that type of reaction from Krzyzewski on video.

"I'm running at him, and he runs right by me and goes and gives Mason a big hug," Amile Jefferson said with a laugh. "I'm going crazy, it's unbelievable to see coach still have that passion. If you can't get up when he does that or when he's hollering and screaming, I don't know what kind of player you are."

When asked about it after the game, Krzyzewski said, "I give emotion a lot during my 33 years here at Duke, so I am going to do whatever I think my team needs. I did that in 1980 and I should do it in 2013, so I thought that's what my team needed, it's what I gave."
