FILE - In this Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, file photo, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is revealed at media previews for the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Maybe it was the brand new, bright red Chevrolet Corvette gleaming in one corner, or the elegant BMW coupe in the other, but car companies were positively giddy this week as the North American International Auto Show opened in Detroit. U.S. new car and truck sales reached a five-year high of 14.5 million in 2012, and many executives and analysts think they'll climb to 15.5 million this year. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, file)

NASCAR team owner and Charlotte area resident Rick Hendrick purchased the first 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette for $1.05 million on Saturday night, SPEEDtv.com reported.

Hendrick, who is the largest Chevy dealer in the country, also purchased 10 percent buyer’s premium as well as a 1969 L-88 Corvette for another $1 million during the 42nd annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Arizona.

Speedtv.com noted that Hendrick has purchased many other brand-new cars at Barrett-Jackson auctions, including the first production 2010 Camaro SS for $350,000; the first 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition for $270,000; the first 2011 Camaro SS convertible for $205,000; and the first 2012 ZL1 Camaro for $250,000.
