Published: January 20, 2013

A Garner man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday on Garner Road in Southeast Raleigh.

Police say Alejandro Ramirez-Castaneda, 25, of 2561 New Hope Church Road, Raleigh, was driving drunk when he crossed the center line and hit the Garner man’s car. Ramirez-Castaneda tried to run when police arrived, and officers found an open bottle of Modelo beer in his car, according to a police report.

The other driver suffered a broken hip, internal bleeding and a bleeding lung, the arrest report said.

Ramirez-Castaneda is charged with felony hit and run, felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, resisting a police officer and improper passing. He is being held under $300,000 bond at the Wake County Jail.

According to an immigration report, Ramirez-Castaneda returned to the U.S. illegally from Mexico after a previous deportation. His record shows a DWI conviction from 2008.
