DURHAM — A man was struck and killed while he walked across Guess Road about a half-hour after sunset Monday, police said.
Kent Hayes, 61, of Durham was crossing the northbound side of Guess Road near West Carver Street when he was struck by a Ford Ranger pickup about 6 p.m., police said.
EMS personnel determined Hayes was dead at the scene.
Police have not filed charges against the driver of the pickup, Raymond Carden, 59, of Durham, though they say their investigation is not done. Police say Carden was not exceeding the speed limit and that Hayes was wearing dark clothing when he was hit.
The northbound lanes of Guess Road, south of West Carver Street, were closed for a time while police determined how the accident happened.
