Trained guards needed
I am a police officer, a squad sergeant, at a local agency. I have received initial training and updated training every couple of years for active shooters since Columbine.
The thought of unarmed guards in our grammar schools makes no sense. If a shooter were to come on campus, that guard would either be the first victim or found locked down with the rest of the students and school personnel if he survives! We have school resource officers in many middle and high schools around the state. Most are trained, certified law officers.
Why do folks feel that the same type of person, a trained, professional officer or deputy, would be disruptive in a grammar school setting? My grandkids have no problem with “Papa” in uniform.
