UNC men's soccer to face MLS team

The North Carolina men’s soccer team will play an exhibition against Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew next month at Bryan Park near Greensboro.

Money raised at the match Feb. 24 will benefit the Crew Soccer Foundation’s Kirk Urso Memorial Fund. Urso was a midfielder who played for the Carolina Dynamo, helped the Tar Heels win an NCAA championship and played in six games for the Crew after Columbus picked him 10th overall in the 2012 MLS draft.

Urso died in August. in Columbus, Ohio. He was 22. He died of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy – a genetic condition that can cause sudden death.

• Thirteen U.S. cities, from Miami to Seattle, will host Gold Cup games this summer.

The federation for soccer in North America, Central America and the Caribbean announced the sites Wednesday for the July 7-28 event.
