Motor scooter driver killed in Raleigh accident

— The driver of a motor scooter was killed when he turned in front of an oncoming car in North Raleigh on Thursday night, according to police.

Alexander Charles Shoemaker was riding east on Sumner Boulevard near Triangle Town Center when he attempted to turn left onto Fox Road at about 9:20 p.m., said police spokesman Jim Sughrue. Shoemaker, 20, hit the left front quarter panel of an oncoming Saturn and was thrown from the scooter, Sughrue said.

Shoemaker was taken WakeMed, where he later died.

The driver of the Saturn was not cited.
