Kathleen Dickson: Stop the fear

January 26, 2013

Stop the fear

I read the Jan. 20 letter “Gunless wonder” with wonder – and huge amounts of laughter.

While I appreciate the writer’s concerns about attacks on our soil, I do not believe anything like what she is so fearful of is even remotely possible. The attacks are coming from within, not some jihad.

The president and vice president reaffirmed their allegiance to the U.S. Constitution and to the citizens of this country. No matter your party or faction, you must recognize these men support America and American ideals. I hope, pray and beg the letter-writer and those like her to help turn us away from the violence and paranoia gripping our country.

Dreams are not the way. Understanding the problem and knowing there is no one or easy answer will be our only road out. So please stop the fear mongering. Find a peaceful way to change our country that doesn’t require 1,000 rounds of ammo.
