No laughing matter
It was disappointing at best, and alarming at worst, to read what I can only assume was Art Pope’s attempt at a joke in Jan. 20’s “Under the Dome.”
“A mischievous Pope says, the day that Pat McCrory announced his appointment, ‘We were all worried about Mr. (Chris) Fitzsimon – we thought he might have a stroke.’ ”
I have an excellent sense of humor, and I appreciate comedy of many kinds.
But I find nothing at all funny about right-wing extremists and religious ideologues bent on the dismantling of government at its helm.
Women, minorities, senior citizens, gay people, the poor and our environment have already suffered great diminishment at the hands of the leadership of the N.C. General Assembly.
When the new session begins Jan. 30 and new bills are introduced, I do not expect to be laughing.
