Five Githens Middle School students earned medals in the Durham school’s Reflections contest for art and literature.
Jake Richard and Connor Kingsland tied for the gold medal in photography, and Connor received a second medal – bronze – for another photography entry.
In the literature category, Ben Bartnik earned the gold and Emma Slentz-Kesler won silver.
Austin Petty won a gold medal in the visual arts category.
All of the winners’ entries went on to compete at the district level, and Emma’s story, “October Thirty-First,” was selected to advance to state, according to the school PTA’s Facebook page.
