Phillies sign Durbin

Published: January 29, 2013

The Philadelphia Phillies signed relief pitcher Chad Durbin to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

The deal includes a club option for 2014.

Durbin heads back to Philadelphia after pitching for the Phillies from 2008-10. He went 11-7 with a 3.62 ERA during that span, and was a member of the World Series championship team in 2008.

The 35-year-old right-hander went 4-1 with one save and a 3.10 ERA in 76 appearances for the Atlanta Braves last season. He surpassed 60 innings (61.0) for the sixth straight year.

Durbin is 42-47 with five saves and a 4.95 ERA in 440 career games (75 starts) with the Royals (1999-2002), Cleveland Indians (2003-04, 2011), Arizona Diamondbacks (2004), Detroit Tigers (2006-07), Phillies and Braves.

To make room for Durbin on the 40-man roster, the Phillies designated pitcher J.C. Ramirez for assignment.
