Durham man charged with bank bag snatching crime

— A Durham man was arrested Tuesday, suspected of snatching a bank bag from the hands of a man walking into Wells Fargo Bank on Banks Drive and fleeing, according to a police news release.

Denis Dion Smith, 37, of 509 Englewood Ave. in Durham, drove away from the bank in a gray sedan which police later found abandoned in the vicinity of the bank. Officers spotted Smith and he was apprehended after a short foot chase.

He is charged with common law robbery, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, resist, obstruct and delay an officer of the law, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving and misdemeanor hit and run.

His bail is set at $100,000.
