CLEVELAND — Tyler Zeller was selected along with Cavaliers teammates Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters to play in next month’s Rising Stars Challenge during All-Star activities in Houston.
Irving has already been picked as an All-Star reserve, and he could start for the Eastern Conference because of a season-ending injury to Boston’s Rajon Rondo.
Irving was named MVP of the Rising Stars game last season, scoring 34 points and making all eight 3-pointers. The game features rookies and second-year players.
• Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez has been chosen to replace the injured Rajon Rondo on the Eastern Conference All-Star team.
Rondo has a torn ACL. The East head coach, likely Erik Spoelstra of Miami, will decide who replaces Rondo in the starting lineup.
