Jack Williams: Let lawmakers live it

Let them live it

Regarding your Jan. 27 article “The more she looks, the harder it gets”: State Rep. Julia Howard wants to reduce unemployment benefits in order to pay the federal bill sooner than later? Someone is out of touch with the real world or just heartless.

Before making such a drastic change in benefits, lawmakers need to better understand the fate of the poor unfortunates and their constituents who are out of work and trying to live temporarily on just $350 per week while looking for work in this lousy economy. Most will have to use up any savings they may have – savings that should be reserved for retirement.

I suggest lawmakers try living on that amount of money for 12 weeks before recommending such a drastic change that will affect the lives of poor families struggling to make ends meet.
