Virginia Porter Treharne

February 1, 2013

Virginia Porter “Ginny” Treharne, 68, passed away on January 28, 2013. A memorial service will be held 2:00 Friday at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Beyer officiating.

Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Hade Treharne. While they met late in life, they enjoyed a little over six years of marriage, and we know that he truly was her soul mate.

A 1962 graduate of Rayen High School in Youngstown, OH, she spent much of her life raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren. If you met her you knew that she was a genuine person and a wonderful friend, someone who would always be there when you needed her. It was her positive attitude towards life that drew so many people to her.

While not formally trained, she spent her entire life learning. While many adults shied away from technology she did not, she educated herself in many different computer programs. This led to job opportunities in a graphic design firm and freelance work. It was more of a creative outlet than a job to her.

Her real passion was interior decorating. She spent her whole life working on her homes, always on a modest budget. In retrospect, her homes were a blank canvas where she created her masterpiece. All the bruised knees due to constant moving of furniture, seems all worthwhile when you entered her home. Her furniture rearranging came to be an expected thing when you walked in the front door…nothing stayed in the same place for very long, but everything was perfect and comfortable. Throughout her home were various saying that truly defined her. ”Home is where your story begins”, “Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest impression “are just a sampling. However, the quote that captures her spirit the best is “Live well, Laugh often, Love much” that blended with the word “Family” on a piece of art she created and was how she lived her life.

Ginny loved music and especially songs that would bring tears to her eyes. She always loved to sing to her grand-daughters, and “Count Your Blessings” was a favorite of hers. She spent most of her life active in church and sang in the choir for many years.

She will be truly missed by all her family and friends, she is survived by her son, Scott Dull & wife, Annie of Clayton and their children, daughter, Georgi Gagich & husband, Robbie of Canfield, OH, brother, Fred Porter of Vienna, OH, grandchildren, Carigan, Katherine, Elizabeth, Lola, several nieces and nephews, son-in-law, Jon Treharne & wife, Rena. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
