A portion of Providence Road in south Charlotte is now open after being closed for much of Wednesday afternoon when a driver struck a power pole in the area. The wreck also caused power outages in the area.
The wreck occurred a little before 2 p.m. in the 4500 block of Providence Road near the intersection with Cedar Lane.
The driver involved in the wreck was briefly trapped in their vehicle, but was rescued by firefighters after about 40 minutes, according to a Charlotte fire spokesman. The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with what Medic described as potentially life-threatening injuries.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Providence Road was shut down for several hours so crews could make repairs to two power poles that were damaged.
This afternoon, Duke Energy reported more than 1,300 outages in Mecklenburg County, with most of them near the scene of the wreck.
