More than 50 area high school football players signed with colleges on Wednesday in anticipation of playing intercollegiate athletics.
The spring signing period of the National Letter of Intent program began on Wednesday for football, boys and girls soccer, track and field, cross country and field hockey. The NLI binds a player to a school in return for financial assistance. Schools also are bound to the athlete.
Wakefield quarterback Connor Mitch and Jordan Fieulleteau, Mitch’s favorite target, did not sign on Wednesday because they graduated in December and already have enrolled in college. Both were Parade Magazine high school all-America selections.
Mitch is at the University of South Carolina, and Fieulleteau is at the University of North Carolina.
