Published: February 6, 2013

The San Francisco Giants and pitcher Sergio Romo agreed to a two-year deal Wednesday, avoiding salary arbitration.

Romo, who earned $1.575 million last year, filed for $4.5 million for a one- year salary when teams and players exchanged figures on Jan. 18. The Giants countered with a $2.675 million offer.

Romo, who turns 30 on March 4, went 4-2 with 14 saves and a 1.79 ERA in 69 relief appearances last season. He also allowed just one earned run in 10 2/3 innings over 10 playoff games, including three saves in San Francisco's four- game sweep of Detroit in the World Series.

In 276 career games with the Giants, Romo is 20-9 with 17 saves and a 2.20 ERA.
