Fire forces 14 from Raleigh house on Hill Street

Published: February 7, 2013

— A fire early Thursday displaced 14 people from a single-story house at 230 Hill St., and fire investigators were unable to immediately determine how it started.

The blaze was reported at 2:13 a.m., fire officials said, and the first engine on the scene reported “heavy fire” coming from the basement.

It took firefighters about a half-hour to bring the blaze under control, and it had damaged half of the 25-foot by 51-foot building by then, they said.

The Red Cross was called to help residents find temporary shelter.

No residents or firefighters were hurt.

The address is listed in Wake County records as a single-family home, but a report of the fire describes it as a “multifamily building with a full basement.”
