Sally Bean: Taylor's all right

Taylor’s all right

I read the article about Eugene Taylor (“Bringing a soothing rhythm at Rex Hospital,” Feb. 4) with tears in my eyes. It took me back to 2009 when my husband, Todd, was in and out of Rex eight times for three surgeries and many long difficult days.

It was on one of his stays that we met Eugene. I heard a quiet drum and a smooth, gentle voice outside my husband’s room. By the time I went to the door, he had just stepped inside the elevator and was gone. Next time, I caught him and asked him to come in. What happened next was some of the most beautiful moments in my life. Eugene sang a song about comfort and hope. The words that I held onto over the months, on the very darkest moments were, “Everyone in this room is gonna be all right.”

And four years later indeed we are all right.
