W. Robert Connor: Gold standard

Gold standard

It is instructive to compare Gov. Pat McCrory’s plan for funding public higher education in our state with the advice of another distinguished political leader: “There is nothing which can better deserve your patronage, than the promotion of Science and Literature. Knowledge is in every country the surest basis of publick happiness.” That was George Washington in his second inaugural address.

North Carolina’s university system is the gold standard in public higher education in this country. Politicians should never be allowed to debase it.
