The mutuel field, comprising 3-year-old horses not listed individually, closed as the favorite in the first of three Kentucky Derby Future Wagers of 2013. The 139th Kentucky Derby will be conducted on Saturday, May 4 at Churchill Downs.
The Future Wager had 24 betting interests comprising 23 individual horses and the mutuel field of "All Others" 3-year-old horses. Betting finished Sunday at 6 p.m. (ET) after beginning Friday.
"All Others" opened as the 9-5 favorite and closed at 8-5. Since the Derby Future bet was introduced in 1999, the mutuel field has been the Pool 1 favorite in each of the 15 years.
Unbeaten Verrazano closed as the 11-1 second choice and tops among the individual 3-year-olds. The 12-1 third pick was Flashback, winner of the Robert B.Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita.
Three horses came in at 13-1 -- Ismyluckyday, Revolutionary and Violence. Eclipse Award winner Shanghai Bobby closed at 14-1.
The second Future Wager will be conducted March 1-3, with the third and final pool held March 22-24.
