Raleigh police charge man, woman with marijuana trafficking

From staff reportsFebruary 11, 2013

— A man and a woman face drug-trafficking charges involving what police said was between 10 and 50 pounds of marijuana.

Yankuba Njie, 24, and Troynisha Perryman, 22, were arrested at Njie’s home at 2925 Glade Aster Court, off Webster Road in northeast Raleigh, according to arrest reports.

Police listed no permanent address for Perryman. She told police she is a student at Shaw University.

According to arrest warrants filed Friday evening, Njie is charged with conspiring with Perryman to traffic in marijuana.

Perryman is charged with trafficking and with conspiring with Njie and another woman to traffic in the drug.

State law sets weight ranges for determining the class of felony for marijuana trafficking, specifying 10 to 50 pounds, 50 to 2,000 pounds and more than 2,000 pounds.

Perryman was being held on $150,000 bail. Njie’s bail was set at $70,000.

Njie also was ordered held for 48 hours while his immigration status in the U.S. is checked. That paperwork says he is a native of Gambia.

His arrest report says that he is unemployed.
