Wake taking applications for school board vacancy

Published: February 11, 2013

— The Wake County school system is now accepting applications from people who want to replace Debra Goldman on the school board.

Applicants will vie for the right to fill the District 9 seat, which covers much of Cary, through the end of November. The seat became open when Goldman resigned Feb. 1 to move to Wilkes County to become executive director of a non-profit group.

The application deadline is Feb. 22. The school board will schedule interviews with applicants, and will likely vote on a successor in March.

Candidates must live in District 9. People can see what district they live in by plugging in their address at http://tinyurl.com/cqzdxv6.

The applications must include a letter of interest no longer than five pages, a résumé and three letters of recommendation

Applications can be mailed to District 9 Board of Education Vacancy, Wake County Board of Education, Crossroads 1, 5625 Dillard Drive, Cary, NC 27518. Applications can also be emailed to district9vacancy@wcpss.net.

Last week, the board appointed Tom Benton to fill the District 1 vacancy created by Chris Malone’s resignation to take his seat in the state House.
