Former Louisiana Derby winner Pants On Fire got into the winner's circle on Friday with a commanding victory at Gulfstream Park. The 5-year-old defeated a stakes quality field in a $54,600 allowance optional claiming event.
Trained by Kelly Breen, Pants On Fire broke from the inside post in the seven horse field. Sent off as the 9-10 favorite, the 5-year-old found himself six- lengths off the lead in the early going.
Ridden by Paco Lopez, Pants On Fire made a move along the inside on the far turn and took over the lead with three-furlongs to go. The favorite opened up down the stretch and posted a 5 1/4-length victory over 5-1 third pick Megamove.
Finishing third was 2010 Breeders' Cup Marathon champ Eldaafer followed by 7-2 second choice Alma D'oro, Two Is to Many, Hello Prince and Duke of Mischief. Scratched from the race were Ravelo's Boy and 2010 Holy Bull winner Winslow Homer.
Pants On Fire covered the mile in 1:37.91 on a sloppy track.
Owned by George and Lori Hall, Pants On Fire picked up his first win since the Skip Away Stakes at Monmouth Park last May 26. Friday's win was worth $31,200 to give the 5-year-old career earnings of $975,760.
Pants On Fire has won six of 18 lifetime starts, including the 2011 Louisiana Derby and Pegasus Stakes. He began the year with a third-place finish in the Hal's Hope Stakes at Gulfstream behind Csaba.
Pants On Fire returned $3.80, $2.60 and $2.20. Megamove paid $4.60 and $3.40, and Eldaafer paid $4.00 to show.
