‘Spoils’ to Republicans

While I expected the new Republican legislators to try to take the state back in time, I didn’t realize it was going to be all the way back to the 19th century!

The bill proposing wholesale firing of all members of key state boards not only removes all experience and continuity for these important groups, it returns us to the notorious “spoils system” under which the newly elected use their powers to throw out all of the previous incumbent’s appointees. They are then free to reward their own political friends with the newly opened seats, regardless of the effects it may have on the operation of these key agencies. Have our legislators no shame?
