Tax the tourists
While our new governor and state lawmakers consider how to change our tax system, I suggest we learn from the state of Florida.
Florida taxes out-of-state tourists for rental cars, hotel stays and Disney tickets or other tourist attractions. Why don’t we, in North Carolina, tax the out-of-state tourists for rental cars, hotel stays, ACC tickets, NASCAR tickets and visits to the Biltmore? How about a toll for the Outer Banks highway?
Instead of taxing the little guy in North Carolina for his groceries, let’s let the out-of-state people pay.
