No ‘stupid state’
Thank you for the excellent opinion pieces refuting Gov. Pat McCrory’s anti-liberal arts comments regarding butts in seats vs. butts in jobs.
The governor would well be informed of a comment attributed to Dr. David Fraser after he (as the 32-year-old who led the team at the CDC that discovered the source of the then-mysterious illness known as Legionnaire’s Disease) was asked to what he attributed his success. Fraser reportedly answered that it was his liberal arts education. It wasn’t that it taught him all the right answers. It was that it taught him how to ask the right questions.
The governor would do well to heed the warning of his fellow Republican, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, to stop making the Republican Party “the stupid party.”
If McCrory cuts liberal arts programs from our UNC system, he will make North Carolina the stupid state.
