Former manager Bobby Valentine is the new athletics director at Sacred Heart University.
According to the Connecticut Post, Valentine is scheduled to be introduced at a Tuesday press conference and will succeed Don Cook, who is retiring on July 1.
"An intriguing opportunity has been presented to me and it's something I really feel I can enjoy doing and I feel could be mutually beneficial," Valentine said over the phone Thursday night.
Valentine, a Stamford native, managed the Texas Rangers from 1985-92, the Mets from 1996-2002, and the Red Sox last season. He has also managed in Japan and was an analyst for ESPN.
Sacred Heart fields 32 Division I sports teams, including the two-time defending Northeast Conference Champion baseball team.
